Built in 1910, this transitional house of curved eaves with false rafters, artistic upper-sash window divisions, and hipped roof with matching dormers suggests a Craftsman architecture which came to full bloom in Arcata during the next decade. The spindlework porch frieze, turned posts, cutout brackets and balustrade are holdover Victorian touches. A bit out of place in cool and foggy north coast California, the palm tree is a relic of turn-of-the-century Arcata when palms were planted on the Plaza and in the yards at 1192 G Street and 902 14th Street.
