A side-gable form with cornice returns, corner boards, wide frieze band, 2/2 windows and full-width porch, the Beacom House, built in 1889, is a late expression of settlement architecture. Robert Beacom was one of the first to purchase a lot in the Union Addition, subdivided by the Union Water Company in January 1889. This plain vernacular house, which was home to seven Beacom children, enjoys and East Arcata setting of old yard plantings and a neighborhood of other similar-aged houses.
