Announcing Arcata’s entry into the world of bungalow housing, the Simms-Hunt House was the home of two dental families—Dr. Simms, 1905-1911 and Dr. Vernon Hunt, 1917-1972. Sweeping hipped roofline, artistic upper window sashes, wide curved eaves and siding-covered porch posts are characteristic of this transitional period as Arcata moved from the formality of Victorian houses to the more casual living of what is called “The Comfortable House.”
